The Azerbaijan National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (AZNP) recently organized an international conference under the theme "European Union-Azerbaijan in the New Eastern Partnership Policy." The event witnessed active participation from 61 individuals, comprising representatives from the European Union, and United Nations Development Programme, as well as various European countries, including the United Kingdom, Great Britain, Italy, Greece, Poland, Hungary, and diplomatic missions operating in Azerbaijan. Local civil society organizations were also well-represented at the conference.

Shahla Ismail, the Country Head of the Azerbaijan National Platform, welcomed the attendees with opening remarks, underscoring the conference's significance and expectations. Ambassador Peter Michalko of the European Union in Azerbaijan, Belgian Ambassador Michael Petermans, and Ahmed Alili, the Director of the Caucasus Political Analysis Center, were key speakers in the first panel discussions.

One of the primary focuses of the conference was the discussion of "Europe-Azerbaijan Relations in a new format: Meeting the Requirements for a Swift European Integration Process" during the first panel discussions. Ambassador Peter Michalko shared insights into the current state of European Union-Azerbaijan relations, highlighting achievements and experiences, and particularly emphasizing the ongoing development of trade relations.

He also expressed the European Union's preference for cooperation with civil society in shaping Eastern Partnership policies. Ambassador Michael Petermans elaborated on factors supporting the country's engagement with the Eastern Partnership and acknowledged the crucial role of civil society institutes in European integration processes.

Ahmed Alili, the Director of the Caucasus Political Analysis Center, shed light on Azerbaijan's role in ensuring Europe's energy security. He discussed current challenges and expectations in this context.

The second panel of the conference focused on "Regional Stability and Civil Society: Reintegration in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur." Esteemed speakers, including Fariz Ismayilzadeh, the Vice-Rector of the Azerbaijan Academy of Diplomacy, Mehriban Rahimli, and Anar Mammadli, presented their perspectives on the topic. The panel concluded with a question-and-answer session.

The conference provided an opportunity for participants to delve into vital aspects of the Eastern Partnership, fostering a better understanding of EU-Azerbaijan relations and the role of civil society. Such events serve as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the exchange of ideas in the context of evolving regional dynamics.
